In this video I go over the process of acquiring seeds from wild crops, setting up a farming plot, caring for your veggies, protecting them from rabbits and providing them good nutrition
Some Additional Notes:
Seeds are also found loot vessels located in ruins - some crops can only be acquired this way.
A good farming strategy is to hunt soil with high nutrient levels and bring it home.
Farmland blocks cannot be picked up and replaced once converted. Breaking farmland destroys the block.
I mentioned Potash, Bonemeal and Compost require metal tools. What I mean by this is that Potash and Bonemeal must be ground in a Quern, which can only be made from a solid stone block - necessitating a pickaxe, and compost requires sealing rot in a barrel, which requires planks and therefore a saw
I didnt mention fruit in this. If you find a mature fruit tree in the wild breaking their branches with an axe may yeild a tree cutting. Each cutting has a 40% chance to grow into a full tree when planted in the ground - if the temperature requirements are met.
