On the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend in 1976, the NSWRTM at Thirlmere began running tourist trains on the adjacent Picton -Mittagong Loopline Railway.
initially running from Picton to Buxton, but for quite a while now running has been between Thirlmere and Buxton.due to changes in track access arrangements and charges.
40 years later running is still to Buxton, unfortunately there has been little interest (despite a lot of enthusiasm) in extending operations to Colo Vale, the logical Southern terminus.
In 1976, 5910, 3214 and 5461 did the honours, in 2016 it was CPH18, due to the conflicting Transport Heritage Expo in Sydney.
The CPH is fitting though, given their long association with the Loopline prior to cessation of passenger services in 1976.
The crew today were Vince Holloway (Driver), Darrin Bailey (Guard) and Stan Cleaver (Passenger Attendant).
