My dear friends, join me on a peaceful and scenic walk to the historic Schauenburg Castle, nestled above the Rench river valley in Oberkirch, Germany. On this beautiful sunny spring day, we explore the charming path leading up to this 1,000-year-old hilltop castle, built around 1060 by Duke Berthold II of Zähringen.

Although now in ruins, Schauenburg Castle still holds much of its medieval charm. We’ll pass by a dry moat, walk alongside its impressive 4-meter-thick shield wall, and discover preserved remains of residential towers, a well, a cellar, and even a small chapel. The views over the valley are simply breathtaking, especially with nature awakening in early spring.
