Released in arcades in 1995 by Namco, Rave Racer is a racing game. The third entry in the "Ridge Racer" series, this game differentiates itself from the first two games with the addition of two new tracks for 4 total, plus tweaks to music, sound and difficulty along with the addition of a horizontal gauge that shows you how close you are to another vehicle. There is also local internet capability for multiplayer racing with linked machines. In this video I took one attempt at each of the 4 tracks.
This is believed to be the final arcade entry in the franchise, after this the series shifted exclusively to the Sony PlayStation consoles with the exception of one Nintendo 64 entry and also, towards the end of the series' run, there was one game released for iPhone/iPod and one for PC (which although still available for purchase on Steam is technically dead/unplayable as the online services necessary for the game were shut down in the late 2010s).
There were no console versions of this game.
