आषाढी एकादशी म्हणजे आषाढ महिन्यातील एकादशी तिथी.आषाढ महिन्याच्या शुद्ध पक्षातील एकादशीला देवशयनी एकादशी म्हटले जाते. काही ठिकाणी ही तिथी पद्मनाभा एकादशी म्हणून ओळखली जाते. महाराष्ट्रात आषाढी एकादशीचे महत्त्व अतिशय वेगळे आहे. विठ्ठलाच्या भेटीची ओढ लागलेले वारकरी पंढरपुरात दाखल होतात.
महाराष्ट्राच्या काना-कोपऱ्यातून ठिकठिकाणाहून लाखो भाविक लोक विठ्ठल नामाचा गजर करीत आषाढी एकाद्शीला पायी चालत येतात.हिलाच आषाढी वारी म्हणतात. चंद्रभागेत स्नान करून विठ्ठलाचे दर्शन घेतात. आषाढीला या दिवशी पंढरपुरास शेगाव येथून पूर्णब्रह्म अधिकारी श्री संत गजानन महाराजांची आळंदीहून ज्ञानेश्वरांची, देहूहून तुकारामांची, त्र्यंबकेश्वराहून निवृत्तीनाथांची, पैठणहून एकनाथांची, उत्तर भारतातून कबिराची पालखी येते.
या दिवशी वारकरी संप्रदायात उपवास करण्याचे विशेष महत्त्व आहे.
Red Soil Stories च्या ह्या भागात आम्ही आषाढी एकादशी निमित्त विठ्ठलाचे दर्शन घेतले व उपावसनिमित्त बनवण्यात येणारी उपवासाची थाळी बनवली आहे. आम्ही साबुदाणा वडा, साबुदाणा खिचडी, उपवासाची कचोरी, शेंगदाणा आमटी, शेंगदाणा लाडू, वरीचा भात (भगर), राजगीरा पुरी, नारळाची चटणी आणि इतर काही पदार्थ तयार केले आहेत.. हे सर्व स्वादिष्ट पदार्थ पाहायला विसरू नका. हा भाग संपूर्ण नक्की पहा.

Ashadi Ekadashi is the Eleventh date of the month of Ashadh. The Ekadashi of the month of Ashadh is called Devashyani Ekadashi. In some places this date is known as Padmanabha Ekadashi. The importance of Ashadi Ekadashi in Maharashtra is very different. Warakaris, eager to meet Vitthal, arrive in Pandharpur.
Millions of devotees from all over Maharashtra come to Ashadhi Ekadashi on foot chanting the name of Vitthal. This is called Ashadhi Wari. They bathe in the moon and pay obeisance to Vitthal. On Ashadhi, on this day, the palanquin of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj, a Purnabrahma official from Pandharpuras Shegaon, comes to Dnyaneshwar from Alandi, Tukaram from Dehu, Nivruttinath from Trimbakeshwar, Eknath from Paithan and Kabira from North India.
On this day, fasting is of special importance in the Warkari sect.
