'50 Wagons at 50' - Great Central Railway 50th Anniversary Weekend - 17/06/23

In 1973, the first trains ran on the former Great Central Railway at Loughborough, since closure in 1969. Fifty years on, and the line has grown to become one of the UK's premier heritage lines, boasting the only preserved double-track mainline between Loughborough and Rothley, with a varied selection of locomotives to suit. Over the years, the railway has become synonymous amongst enthusiasts for displaying regular goods traffic, cared for by the team at Quorn Wagon & Wagon, and the railway's own Carriage & Wagon department. The 50th Anniversary weekend saw a first for the railway and UK preservation, with a fifty wagon goods train, hauled by BR Standard 9F 92214.

Quorn & Woodhouse Station played host to a number of displays, including SR Bulleid Light Pacific 34039 'Boscastle', currently undergoing overhaul, Quorn Wagon & Wagon's own 'Test Car 2', and Andrew Barclay 1223 'Colin McAndrew' visiting from the nearby Mountsorrel Railway. At Loughborough, visitors could view inside the newly refurbished shed, complete with a wide selection of locomotives at various stages of overhaul.
