On the hottest Friday of the year twenty-nine dedicated whisky enthusiasts joined us in our not-even-slightly air conditioned tasting room to sample six malts from series two of the Thompson Brothers Mystery Malts.
Matt & Roddy had made sure not to be involved in opening and pouring the whiskies, so not a single person present knew any more than anybody else. It was an enormously entertaining evening for us, and all our guests joined in the guessing game enthusiastically.
On our informal malt detective scale of Clouseau to Rebus, both Matt & Roddy ended up fiurmly in Pink Panther territory, but the fun is in playing the game!
Here's what we ended up tasting:
Dornoch 5 Year Old
Nc'nean 5 Year Old
Clynelish 9 Year Old
Tormore 17 Year Old
Torabhaig 7 Year Old
Caol Ila 11 Year Old
This is definitely something we'd like to do again...
The two snippets that Roddy read out are from:
*The Taste of Wine, Emile Peynaud, translated by Michael Schuster, Macdonald & Co., London, 1987
Gargantua and Pantagruel, François Rabelais, ~1532 to ~1564
