As a Phillumenist, Ameya in search of beautiful matchboxes for a hobby travels to different countries, visits fellow collectors’ homes, and listens carefully to their stories while experiencing their lives for a day or two. He also receives matchboxes from collectors across the globe. Ameya passionately narrates a story from his first matchbox to a current collection of over 100,000. He highlights how common interests bring people together, overcoming communal, religious, linguistic, and cultural barriers. This odyssey, in all its different ways, has been serving him as an edifice and a framework to continually learn and grow. Ameya is a researcher at the University of Twente, The Netherlands This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
