EP Desk, Pasighat 16 Jan 2026:
The Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) Apex Body has formally declared the Adi Ba:né Kébang (ABK) Central Executive Body meeting minutes dated 14 November 2025 (Ref No. ABK/MOM/2025-28) as null and void, stating that the contents of the decision are inconsistent with the AdiSU Constitution and established rotation policy.
According to an official communication issued from the office of the AdiSU (Apex), strong objections were raised against Point No. 7 of the ABK meeting minutes, which dealt with matters related to the AdiSU presidential post and election process. AdiSU clarified that ABK has no constitutional authority to alter, override, or interfere with the internal election process of AdiSU, which is an autonomous and constitutionally governed students’ body.
The Apex Body reiterated that as per the AdiSU Bye-laws and rotation cycle, the Presidential post for the VIth AdiSU General Conference cum Election 2025 is reserved for Namsai District, and any attempt to divert the post to another district has no constitutional basis. AdiSU further stated that exceptions to the rotation policy are permissible only when no eligible candidate is available, a condition which does not apply in the present case as multiple eligible candidates from Namsai District have already expressed their willingness to contest.
AdiSU (Apex) also noted that while ABK meeting minutes referred to mutual settlement between AdiSU Namsai and AdiSU Shi-Yomi units, no such provision exists in the AdiSU Constitution to allow district-level units to mutually exchange or transfer a reserved presidential post.
In view of the ongoing election process, the AdiSU (Apex) has directed the Election Commissioner to conduct the election strictly in accordance with the AdiSU Constitution and rotation policy, without deviation. The Apex Body categorically stated that any decision, order, or communication issued by ABK in November 2025 concerning the AdiSU election stands null and void.
Earlier, on 21 October 2025, Shri Nang Gao, former President of AdiSU (Apex), was appointed as the Election Commissioner for the VIth AdiSU General Conference cum Election 2025 under Article 25, Clause 2 of the AdiSU Bye-laws, following due consultation with the Executive Council.
AdiSU (Apex) reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional discipline, transparency, and democratic functioning, and appealed to all stakeholders to refrain from issuing or circulating misleading communications that could disrupt the election process.
