A helicopter positioned over Building 4800 at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, removed a rooftop pedestal and telemetry dish that tracked information from early experimental aircraft. A cable was lowered on Oct. 4, 2024, and attached to the pedestal. Once secured, the helicopter slowly gained altitude and took its passenger to the south side of the building and released it from the cable.
The pedestal was taken to a nearby warehouse for storage, while officials determine its new permanent location. There are several options to place the pedestal and dish by the famous retired research aircraft displayed near the entrance to the center.
