The Wiesel, often referred to as Germany's tiny tank, was Developed in the 1970s to meet the German Army's requirement for an air-transportable light armored vehicle, the Wiesel was designed to provide airborne troops with armored mobility upon landing. This requirement was necessitated by the inadequacy of the infantry's equipment to effectively engage enemy main battle tanks (MBTs) during the 1970s. The vehicle's compact size and agility make it extremely difficult to detect on the battlefield, earning it the nickname "Wiesel," which translates to "weasel" in German.
