Ulavacharu Recipe | Homemade Horse Gram Rasam | బలమైన ఉలవచారు
Ulavacharu is a traditional Andhra delicacy made using horse gram (ulavalu). It's iron-rich, comforting, and perfect for postpartum recovery, anemia, and daily nourishment. Here’s how I made this simple and healthy version at home.

🥣 Ingredients:
Horse gram (ulavalu) – 1 cup
Tamarind – lemon-sized ball
Garlic – 6 cloves (crushed)
Dry red chilli – 1
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Jeera – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – few
Salt – to taste
Turmeric – ¼ tsp
Water – as needed
Oil or ghee – 1 tsp (for tempering)

🔪 Recipe Process:
1. Soak 1 cup horse gram (ulavalu) for 8 hours or overnight.
2. Pressure cook it with enough water for 5–6 whistles until soft.
3. Strain and collect the stock (ulavalu boiled water).
4. In a pot, heat 1 tsp oil/ghee. Add mustard seeds, jeera, dry red chilli, garlic, and curry leaves.
5. Boil the stock on medium heat for 10–15 minutes to thicken.
6. Add tamarind pulp, salt, and turmeric, and continue to boil.
7. Add 1 tbsp of smashed horsegram it will gets thicken more
8. Boil for a few more minutes and switch off.
Serve hot with steamed rice and a spoon of fresh cream . Perfect for winter, monsoon, post-delivery, or iron-deficiency diets!
