O Come Emmanuel Jazz Rearrangement

Happy holidays! I was in a Catholic boy’s choir when I was in elementary school. Of all the hymns I sang, this was my favorite. It’s still a banger. I turned it into a jazz tune. Enjoy.

That's me playing guitar. I started teaching myself recently. My fingertips hurt. So far I can't really do anything but play simple melodies and an E Minor chord (LOL), but soon enough I'll be shredding like Tensei on Time On My Side.

Dude. Jazz is so fucking hard. I hate recording jazz. It’s so difficult. The drumming, the piano, the improvisation, the rhythms, the comping, the everything. Especially calm, subdued, controlled jazz with fast changes. I always tell myself I’m going to record and practice more jazz and then proceed to never do it. It’s something I need to work on a lot. I’m better than I was a year ago at improvising and comping (if you count “barely being able to do either of those two things” as a starting point). Still got a long way to go.

Last things last, I had a lot of fun trading fours with myself. I’ve never done it before. Not where I had to improvise stuff on the spot, at least. Improvising is already hard, and it gets even harder when you have to do it quickly, 4 bars at a time. Definitely something I’ll attempt again in the future.
