Sahitya Akademi award winning author KR Meera's new book Assassin, which is the English translation of her 2022 Malayalam book Ghathakan, invokes journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder in 2017.
The book invokes Lankesh and then follows the protagonist, Satyapriya, in her quest for truth as she discovers that she may not be the only member of her family to have fallen prey to an assassin. The events of the book unfold in 2016 as the country grapples with the fallout of demonetisation and weaves in important themes of contemporary politics, caste, class, and money power.
