Umiam Lake is a reservoir in Meghalaya, India, that's a popular destination for tourists. It's also known as Bara Pani.

The lake was created in the early 1960s by damming the Umiam River
The dam was built by the Assam State Electricity Board to store water for hydroelectric power generation
The lake is a major hub for boating and water sports
The lake is surrounded by forests with many resorts

Location
The lake is located in the hills 15 km (9.3 mi) north of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya, India
The lake's catchment area and dam spread over 220 square kilometers.
The maximum depth of the lake is around 200 ft
