CHIANG RAI DAY TRIP | The White Temple, Karen village & The Golden Triangle

Today we took a guided day trip from Chiang Mai up to Chiang Rai. We stopped by the white temple (Wat Rong Khun), the blue temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten), and the black house (Baan Dam). The white temple symbolizes heaven, the blue temple symbolizes the earth and water, and the black house symbolizes hell.

After visiting the temples, we enjoyed a traditional Thai lunch where Matt had some extremely spicy soup. Then we went to a Karen village in Chiang Rai. The Karen people are historically from Burma/ Myanmar, and have refugee camps given to them by the Thai government. We bought a few souvenirs to support their economy before we were taken to the golden triangle.

The golden triangle is the intersection between Burma/ Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. We got to take a boat over the actual golden triangle in the Mekong river. We spent about 30 minutes on Laos soil before heading back to Thailand and driving 4 hours back to Chiang Mai.
