This silent hiking video pretty much sums up the reasons why I love Lofoten so much. It’s all about the contrasts. From a windy and sunny summit hike with stunning views to a cloudy and tranquil beach camp in snowy conditions.
In this hike I visit the mountain Ryten where I get a good overview of the surrounding mountains as well as Kvalvika and Vestervika beach. I walk down towards Kvalvika and find myself a level ground to set up my tent. As soon as I get down to the beach it starts to snow, so I quickly set up the tent and get to sleep right away. The next morning I wake up to sunny conditions and birds chirping. From the tent I can enjoy the views of the waves and the ocean while enjoying a cup of coffee. I pack down my tent and have a stroll across the beach before I head back over the ridge to the parking lot.
And yes, this is Lofoten in May. About a month ago I thought spring had arrived, but it’s been snowing every day now for about a week, so I guess I soon have to dig out my skis from the storage room.
Location:
The mountain is called Ryten and is located on Moskenesøya in Lofoten, Norway (68°05'13.2"N 13°05'31.4"E).
The beach is called Kvalvika (68°04'40.4"N 13°05'50.9"E).
