A Pilgrimage to St Non's Well
/ priestjacob
Part 11 of the 'Ancient Faith of Britain: Orthodoxy in the Isles' series
Orthodox Christianity is full of stories about mothers... or other holy women who laid the groundwork for the communication of the Gospel in a given land. The Theotokos is the template for such women, of course, but St Helena and St Olga are figure prominently. Less well-known, but extremely significant is Queen Bertha of Kent, who worshipped as a Christian in the midst of an overwhelmingly pagan, Saxon kingdom, and made it possible for St Augustine to find a home in England, and a platform for his mission. Prior to Bertha, though, was St Non. She was the mother of St David, and a remarkable holy woman in her own right. This is a glimpse of her story.
Join me, Fr Jacob Siemens, Orthodox priest serving the Parish of St Theodore and St Teilo in Cardiff, Wales, as I take you on a journey across Britain - and Wales in particular - to learn more about how the Orthodox Christian Faith arrived here, about how it spread, and about some of its wonderful and inspiring saints.
