This once grandiose Federal brick manor house was built in the early 1800’s between 1810-1820. Packed inside and outside with beautiful old architectural details like the Flemish bond brick work used on the exterior with dental molding trim along the roof and a large recessed second story porch. Inside of the home is a grand staircase with ornate carvings along the side almost in the shape or design of a treble clef. Stunning old fireplace mantles remain with nearly all of the old hardware intact on the doors.
From what I could find out on the home it was built for a successful farmer/ carpenter who had this house built for his large family. It remained in the same family for a century before being sold off and eventually left vacant sometime in the 1990’s for reasons I couldn’t find out. Who knows what dreary happenings of circumstance have transpired to bring about such a common thread and kindred tale for so many of these old forgotten houses. The issue is that what drives the tale won’t survive the tale. Even if you placed your hands on the stones of ancient ruins you’d never really believe that the world which they’ve survived through had at one time the same reality as the one you’re standing in. Thank you for watching.
Oh yeah the abandoned Pennsylvania turnpike tunnels were built for trains in the late 1800’s then repurposed for cars in the 1940’s. By the 1960’s the tunnels were outdated and caused traffic so the road was rerouted and the tunnels, plus stretches of highway were just plumb forgotten until becoming hiking trails in the early 2000’s. Now you can check them out if you are inclined. Thank you, hope you enjoy.
