Today’s mission was supposed to be simple… strip the second K5 Blazer door down to bare metal.
And like always, the truck had other plans.
Halfway through the job, my discount “sander/buffer” (variable speed, Harbor Freight special) finally tapped out. You’ll see the exact moment it dies, the moment I realize it died, and the aftermath of me trying to power through the rest of the door without a proper tool.
This door had:
• 40 years of stacked paint layers
• An absurd amount of body filler
• Old repairs buried under new repairs
• And one cheap tool that couldn’t handle it
After the sander quit, I did try the grinder…
…but you won’t see that chaos here.
I saved that footage for upcoming shorts (weather might knock out power this week).
At the end of this video, I talk through what went wrong, what actually killed the sander, and what I’m switching to next until a new one shows up. Upcoming projects include finishing this door, prepping the tailgate, restoring tools, and working on the rainwater catchment system.
If you enjoy real garage work, sarcastic commentary, and brutally honest restoration videos, you’re in the right place. Stick around — the chaos continues.
