Sometimes familiarity can be the enemy of understanding. So it is, often times, with the crucifixion of Jesus. For so many of us, we've grown up hearing the story of Jesus' death on the cross, and we have an answer in our back pocket from Sunday school about why Jesus needed to die on the cross, but beyond that, we may not really understand all that much about what led to Jesus' death, what crucifixion entailed, and perhaps most importantly, the true meaning of the cross. In this video, I'm joined by Orthodox biblical scholar Dr. Eugenia Constantinou to discuss the crucifixion in context. We cover the Jewish and Roman trials, the parallels with the binding of Isaac, the physicality of crucifixion, and ultimately, the meaning of it all.
