This video covers the entire string-change process from first-time installation to tuning up to pitch. It's primarily for beginners, but gives a few tips that might be useful for more experienced players, too.
There's even a helpful PSA!
There are several reasons you might change strings on your guitar:
to try different gauge strings
to try a different brand
to replace old strings that have worn out and lost their tone, or
to replace a broken string
When a string breaks, it's usually because of
a problem with the quality of the string (material/construction)
coming into contact with a sharp edge or pinching point on the guitar
being tuned to a tension higher than its measured tolerance
fatigue from use/age, or
how the string was installed - for example, being bent at a sharp angle / multiple times
I've never had a string break using the method I show here. Strings lose their tone with use and age. How often you change them is up to you, but if you play nearly every day, I recommend changing them about every 3 months for crisp, bright tone. Some folks change them more often, some less depending on need and personal preference.
It's better to change one string at a time. Once a guitar has had strings installed and brought up to tension for the first time, removing them all together causes a sudden release of tension on the neck which could harm your guitar.
If you have questions or comments, put them in the Comments section below and I'll do my best to answer them as soon as I can.
Best of luck with your playing & thanks for watching!
