Tses residents petition governor over alleged council mismanagement - nbc

A group of concerned residents of Tses Village have petitioned ||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze over the local council's poor service delivery and maladministration. 

In a petition they handed over to Gertze, the group charged that the council imposes municipal charges without prior consultations with residents. 

They further raised concerns over alleged embezzlement of council funds, misuse of council vehicles, favouritism in employment, and double allocations of erven. 

"We wanted to take up the above-mentioned matters with the Village Council of Tses, but since the council seems ignorant and the wrongdoings still continue, we are drawing your attention to this matter. Honourable Governor, please investigate at all necessary levels with the relevant authorities and stakeholders," said group spokesperson Brian !Gaoseb. 

The group urged the governor to provide them with a satisfactory response to the concerns raised within a reasonable time.

"You have put this issue in my office; let's remain disciplined, let's demonstrate that. I am urging you. And rest assured, I will come back," said Governor Gertze, adding that he would engage the council on the grievances raised to also hear its side of the story. 

Julian Christiaan, the council's chairperson, responded to the allegations by stating that the set legal frameworks govern staff appointments and tender awards. 

"Regarding the staff accused of embezzlement, the legal or the personnel rules were followed, and the council resolved that those who misappropriate funds must repay the money. We cannot simply make hiring and firing decisions; we don't want to be associated with such actions."

Christiaan further explained that only standby personnel can use council vehicles after hours. 

The council's chair added that no tariff increases were implemented for the past and current financial years, except for electricity charges, which were increased in line with the set Electricity Control Board tariff increases.
