Ever wondered why so many rescued alligators call Everglades Holiday Park home? In this video, Paul Bedard—star of the Gator Boys Alligator Rescue team—explains why we provide sanctuary to these incredible reptiles.

By Florida law, once an alligator is declared a “nuisance alligator” by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), it must be trapped and either euthanized or placed in a permanent sanctuary. While we send most of the alligators we rescue to approved sanctuaries, some are given a second chance right here at Everglades Holiday Park.

Why do we keep them? Because these amazing animals become ambassadors for their species, helping us educate the public about alligator behavior, conservation, and the important role these apex predators play in the Everglades ecosystem. Through our live educational shows, guests learn why these alligators are so important—and why they deserve our respect and protection.
