Oslo is such a beautiful city to visit. In this video, we go to the Museum Island of Oslo and visit the Fram Museum and the Norsk Folkemuseum. Then we make our way downtown and spend some time in the beautiful seaside before heading back home to Munich, Germany. Our first stop was the Norsk Folkemusuem, or The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. This museum is a beautiful open-air museum consisting of over 160 buildings and scenes that were transported from all over Norway to this location. The museum is also the oldest one of its kind in Norway. Here you can see what life and living was like for Norwegians for the past 500 years. The museum includes several small villages, farms, and townsfolk from every era. There are also several exhibits located within the main buildings that showcase everything from cooking in the Middle Ages to how they dressed.
One of the coolest things we found at this museum was the Stave Church transported from Gol, Norway. These churches are often over 1,000 years old, and this one was no exception. This building was actually transported to Oslo by the King in 1881 to help him show his appreciation for Norwegian culture. It is a beautiful building, and well worth the visit. You can find more on the museum’s website here: https://norskfolkemuseum.no/
Next, we made our way to the other side of Museum Island to see the Fram Museum. In this museum you can find two of the most famous arctic exploration ships on the planet. Both of these ships were used by the famed explorer Roald Amundsen. Amundsen took the first ship, the Gjoa, from Norway and was the first man to completely traverse the Northwest Passage in Canada by ship. Then he took another ship a few years later, the Fram, and became part of the first group of explorers to successfully reach the South Pole. It was amazing to take in these spectacular parts of history. You can find more on the Fram museum’s website here: https://frammuseum.no/
After resting a bit, we made our way from our hotel out to the seaside. Here we saw the cultural center called SALT. This area is an enclosed area with a large sauna, great food and drink options, and plenty of music and art for nearly everyone to enjoy. You can find more about this place here: https://www.salted.no/
From there, we made our way over to the Oslo Opera House. This building is fairly new, only being about 15 years old, and it makes an awesome impression on the newer part of the Oslo skyline. This building was made to impress, with white granite stone covering nearly every part of it, and beautiful blue glass offering amazing views of the harbor. There are plenty of little architectural details inside the building too that make it a very contemporary and modern, yet stylish building. The Oslo Opera House has even won awards for being one of the modern contemporary buildings of our time.
From there, we stopped at a little island of food trucks and beer carts for lunch. Here we had an amazing pizza and some drinks (for only €30, we might add), and then we made our way over to the Munch Museum. This museum is also located on the harbor and is directly next to the Oslo Opera House. This museum features several of the works of Norwegian artist Edvard Munch and is a wonder to behold.
From there, we continued our walk around the Oslo harbor and man-made beaches until we eventually needed to travel back home. Make sure to SUBSCRIBE if you like our content. It really helps us! 😊
