Deraboon, or Dera d'Aboona, the village is bordered by Turkey and Syria with most of its current inhabitants coming back to the village around 2004. The Assyrian Aid Society-Iraq assisted with rebuilding the homes and providing medicines and other necessities for rebuilding the lives of those who fled cities like Baghdad.
Like other villages in the north, most of its inhabitants do not have jobs or clean water. Furthermore, Deraboon villagers are not able to grow and sell crops because the land is shared with non Assyrians, affecting their ability to own land and grow crops.
Tune in to hear and see the interesting history of Deraboon, and learn how you can help us rebuild villages like this and encourage our people to settle there.
