Summary of “Tahtouh” Documentary
Nearly three decades ago, the people of a small village called “Afighou” , which is nestled in the lofty peaks of Bordj Bou Arreridj in Algeria decided with heavy hearts to abandon their memories and leave their homes empty. The lack of security during the Black Decade had become too much to bear in this village, and so they chose to take the only path that seemed available to them - the path of departure.
Although “Afighou” inhabitants bartered their memories in exchange for security and quiet, uncle Hassan the so called “Tahtouh” a man of fifty-nine years old, gave up this village where he spent his childhood. This documentary evokes the aspirations, anguish, and struggles of a man striving to preserve his recollections in a period when forgetting was essential for survival.
