Seyit Jamal ad-Din was a revered Sufi saint who contributed to Islamic scholarship and spiritual life in Turkmenistan and Central Asia.
The architectural complex, consisting of a madrassah (Islamic school), mosque and khanagah (lodging for pilgrims) was built in the 15th century.
It was destroyed in the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake (7.3M) - yet pilgrims flock to the saint's grave.
