Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis served as baseball’s first commissioner from 1920 until his death in 1944. During his tenure, he asked John Philip Sousa to compose a march for the National League’s 50th anniversary. When they met, there was no doubt that Sousa told Landis about his enthusiasm for the game. Sousa’s love for baseball shines in his 1925 march, "The National Game."
Conducted by Capt. Darren Y. Lin, this march was performed by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band on Feb. 2, 2025 at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Va.
