Rachel Blanchard in a musical scene from the American-New Zealand series Flight of the Conchords. In this scene, Jemaine (Jemaine Clement) falls in love at first sight with Sally, the character played by Rachel. He starts to wax lyrical about Sally's beauty in an eccentric and rambling manner through a particularly funny song full of quirky humor. This song, written, composed, and performed by Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, is titled 'The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room)'. It appears on their album released by the Sub Pop label, simply titled after their duo, 'Flight of the Conchords'.
Flight of the Conchords has been active since 1998. McKenzie and Clement have known each other since they were students at the University of Wellington. Multi-instrumentalists, they first started performing their humorous songs in public before having their own radio show on the BBC in 2005. Following the show's success, they were able to create their television series on HBO, starting in 2007.
Rachel Blanchard appears in episodes 1 and 5 of the first season. She plays Sally, a young woman living in New York who meets a duo of folk-rock artists expatriated from New Zealand, Jemaine (Jemaine Clement) and Bret (Bret McKenzie). Jemaine and Bret do their best to get their career off the ground in America, but they struggle to break through and are just getting by. They are roommates, living their daily lives somewhat like eternal post-adolescent students.
