Armin Berger has been working in communication for 27 years and has seen many revolutions. As an internet pioneer and visionary, he anticipated many of the developments that are now part of everyday life at an early stage and still feels committed to the early ideas of the internet: free access to information for all, for a better world. That‘s what he is demanding while we are witnessing a new revolution right now: Artificial intelligence is taking over more and more of our everyday lives. But is it going the right direction? At the moment, only huge international corporations as well as governments who want to strengthen their influence on societies define AI. But where does the idea of a free society, one which is human-centered and supportive of diverse, individual life paths come into play? We need an AI that is trustworthy, unbiased and transparent; an AI that supports humans, but does not control them. We are the generation that is responsible for the way we are heading. As the alliance spokesman for the BMBF's QURATOR research project, Armin Berger, together with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and others, is a driving force behind developments in the field of AI and digital curating. The focus is on the development of editorial tools and services as well as storytelling applications based on artificial intelligence.
