Domestic helpers affected by the deadly fire at Hong Kong’s Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po need assistance ranging from daily necessities and temporary shelter to reissuance of official documents, according to NGOs that advocate for and support them. About 200 foreign domestic workers worked in the housing estate that became the site of the city’s deadliest fire in seven decades. At least 12 helpers lost their lives. However, the need goes beyond those who lived in the estate. Domestic workers who lost relatives in the fire are not guaranteed leave to mourn and attend to the affairs of their loved ones.
