The Child Maintenance Service: Interfering with Private Agreements for Profit!
The Child Maintenance Service (CMS) was supposed to help children—but instead, it’s destroying families and driving parents into financial ruin.

🔴 Did you know? Even if parents have a private arrangement and payments are being made, the CMS can still interfere! They claim "arrears," force cases onto Collect & Pay, and take a 20% cut from the paying parent and 4% from the receiving parent.

📜 Even in 1997, Parliament exposed this injustice. They knew the system was targeting ‘soft cases’—pursuing parents who were already paying, while ignoring real non-payers. Nothing has changed—except now, it’s even worse.

🚨 The CMS is not about supporting children. It’s about control and profit.

💥 It’s time for a full public inquiry into the Child Maintenance Service.

That this House deeply deplores the unfair inconsistencies long apparent in the operation of the Child Support Agency; notes, for instance, that fathers who have made maintenance arrangements for their former partners are being pursued by the CSA for much higher payments, far in excess of their means, while, on the other hand, there are many women who have never received any maintenance payments at all because of the failure of the CSA to pursue their former partners with sufficient vigour; believes that the CSA is currently concentrating its efforts on soft targets, rather than a consistent enforcement of proper maintenance obligations; and urges the Government to enhance the fairness and effectiveness of the operations of the CSA at the earliest opportunity.
