Mt. Iwawaki at 897.7 meters is one of the highest mountains in Osaka Prefecture. Within a 40-minute train ride from Osaka City center it is a great mountain for a day hike or a longer extended hike as it is connected by the Diamond Trail to some of the other famous mountains in the area.
Mt. Iwawaki as a variety of trails which make it fun but it also a very special feature on the top of the mountain. And that is the Japanese Pampas grass that grows there. This is the type of grass that was used in the traditional thatched roof homes in past times in Japan. It is still sued for that purpose today. The grass itself and the fact there are no trees on the summit provides a very unique feel to this mountain and a great view.
