ZENITH - projection light artwork (short edit)

ZENITH: (noun) The point in the stars directly overhead defined by a line passing through the centre of the Earth.

Zenith is a 10 minute artwork that loops seamlessly.

Drawing its inspiration from astronomy and cosmology, Zenith is a compelling sound and projection artwork designed as an immersive moving light sculpture. It is accompanied by a meditative soundscape that allows the observer a moment of calm and quiet contemplation. It evokes a sense of the eternal, where all time - past, present and future - come together as one constant.

Zenith is a combination of projection designs based on the four classical elements: earth, air, fire and water. The animated light beams each contain individual portions of clearly visible video imagery, changing form and colour over time. Hundreds of these smaller images are dispersed over the surfaces of the space.

The resultant architectural structure is made up of individual beams of light in smoke. This creates a rich visual spectacle whilst its contemporary audio soundtrack promotes a compelling contemplative atmosphere. As it draws on the simplicity of the everyday experience of the four elements, it expresses a very wide range of themes and ideas, including the astronomical and the ecological.

Designed to be placed in an interior space, ZENITH could be adapted for outdoor installation.

Zenith was very well received by the public at its first exhibition at Light Up Poole 2019 and was featured as one of the Festival highlights by the BBC. At this exhibition, it drew 10,000 visitors into the St James’ Church over 3 evenings.

Some people would call it prayer or meditation…it definitely was a space that changed people if only for a brief moment. We became immersed in the whole experience, we felt like we were partners with Ross, Karen and ‘Light Up Poole’ in providing something good for the community, good for spirit and soul."
