My son Tyler runs the spring beaver line with me on today's trip. We had just laid out the line the day before.
In northern Ontario with water so abundant beaver need to be managed otherwise they cause a lot of problems and really like to plug up culverts causing major issue for highways, forest access road, railways, mines, farmer, and municipality. They can cause thousands of dollars of damages.
Trappers play a key role in managing the population for the benefit of society, in turn the whole system depends on having a viable fur market. Without a market for fur, society has to pay thousands of $ to control the beaver.
