I am absolutely delighted to have been sworn in as the SNP MSP for the Highlands and Islands at the Scottish Parliament this morning, and to be one of the few who took the oath Gaelic. I look forward to working with all MSPs across the political divide over the next parliamentary term to deliver for the Highlands and Islands region.
"I, Maree Todd, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, Her Heirs and Successors, according to Law. So help me God."
I will continue to champion the Gaelic language, although not a speaker myself, I think it is vital that the language continues to be used in everyday life including in our parliament. My mum is a native speaker and can't be here today because of family illness. Taking the Gaelic oath is a way for me to include her in today's ceremony.
