Briarwood Mall: Empty Spaces

I wouldn't call this a dead mall, as it still has decent traffic through most of the week, but this video still shows how a mall that isn't really dead can still be in an uncertain state. This mall has four anchor spaces with only three open anchor tenants. Sears closed in January of 2019, and since then, the mall has certainly taken a hit, even if that wasn't a significant hit, it still changed the way the mall looks. In May of 2019, I started to notice the stores in the mall were starting to just disappear, they would either say they moved or just closed entirely. I visited the mall a few times at the beginning of 2020, two or three times in January, and once in early March, each time I visited, it seemed like one or two more stores were gone, and nobody was filling their spaces. I didn't visit the mall for over a year, but I went back a few times in the summer and fall of 2021, and while the traffic actually seems to have increased since 2019 and 2020, there are still a lot of empty spaces with nobody taking their places. As of 2022, Sears' anchor space has been empty for 3 years, and it appears nobody is gonna take It's place. Back in 2019, the mall's map referred to Sears' space as "Coming soon" but as of now, it appears nothing is going on behind that big wall they put up, so I can only imagine Sears' space is just rotting away. Two of the other anchor tenants, besides Sears, are Macy's and JCPenny, which are two brands with very uncertain futures. So if Macy's or JCPenny were to close as well, I think the mall would take a more significant hit from that. While me and many other people probably would like the mall to have a bright future, like many malls in the U.S., It's future will likely end in demolition.
