EXPLORING DAKHLA: Tourism Capital of the Western Sahara Disputed Territory (Claimed by Morocco!)

In this video, I explore the charming beachfront city of Dakhla (claimed by Morocco) in the deep south of the Western Sahara disputed territory. This small, remote city just happens to be the windsurfing/kitesurfing capital of the world, and has become the tourism capital of Morocco's southern province and one of the country's up-and-coming travel destinations. Featuring a bustling corniche (waterfront) that snakes alongside its calm, windy lagoon, this city is exceedingly popular among Moroccan travellers looking for the closest thing to Hawaii this side of the globe, and its reputation as a premier travel destination is quickly spreading internationally.

Join me in this video for a walking tour along the corniche, from the city market across to the Place Hassan II independence square, where we'll discover a massive teapot, talk a bit about Morocco's ongoing claim over the UN-disputed Western Sahara, visit the historic Spanish colonial Cathedral, wander through its beautiful city parks, and end our tour with a walk through its vibrant night market. I only had a single day in Dakhla, and would have loved to visit the beaches, but this video solely focuses on the urban highlights of this beachside city.

Hotel quality here varies greatly, and admittedly, I did encounter bedbugs the moment that I checked in to my first property (Hotel Dakhla Ville). I switched to the Karam City Hotel, which was clean, comfortable, and pest-free.
