"Sensorial theatre in youth work" was a 10-day Erasmus+ training course organised by FITT in collaboration with Teatrul Senzorial. This program brought together youth workers from across Europe, and it involved interactive workshops, practical sessions, and inspiring discussions on how to use theatre as a sensorial, immersive experience in youth work. Through this video, you can see the exercises and the preparation the youth workers went through for their final performance with the community from Timisoara.
What is Sensory Labyrinth Theatre?
Sensory Labyrinth Theatre (SLT) is an immersive, interactive form of theatre based on participatory methods. In SLT, the performances are co-created with the help of amateur actors, fostering a sense of community and strengthening social bonds. Its unique format also has a transformative, therapeutic effect on both performers and audience members. SLT has been extensively used in youth work, being an accredited non-formal educational method. Performances take the form of individual journeys through large spaces, where each spectator becomes the protagonist of a story. This story unfolds through "sensory portals", dramatic scenes enacted by the amateur troupe. Blindfolded spectators are guided to let go of control and focus on their senses, discovering hidden layers of reality.
