Set in the steppes and foothills of Western Mongolia and the vast lands of Altai mountains, a group of Kazakh women venture into an adventure that takes them back to their true identity as nomads. A Filipina who is a modern day nomad and an explorer from the U.S. joins the women to understand her own journey towards nomadism and her place as a woman in a male-dominated adventure travel industry. Along the way, she meets Huanar and Aimoldir whose stories reflect those of her own as a woman and a nomad.
Were women leaders of nomadic migrations then and now?
This is a true story of the first ever all women migration in the Altai Mountains of Mongolia that has been captured on film. The film was produced, written and directed by Marinel Malvar de Jesus and was made possible through partnerships with a locally-based production team. The production team filmed and completed this project during the COVID-19 crisis. We are thankful for all those who made this film possible amidst such challenging times.
