Probably the most cited reason why people recommend IONOS is that it's a cheap web hosting provider. And yeah, that might look the case if you only glance at what it offers. The $1 a month for an unlimited shared hosting plan, with daily backups and a free domain name, is probably the cheapest deal I've ever seen. So for short projects that's great, though I don’t know how many people get an unlimited hosting plan for short projects, right? You’re probably going to stay and this plan goes to around $12 a month. But regular plans do have much better renewal rates, $60 for the first year, and $72 for the next is pretty good industry-wise.

However, if we look at shared hosting overall, IONOS is on the more expensive side - the cheapest option here actually starts from $5 a month and limits you to 1 website and 10 GB of storage. In contrast, Hostinger has a limit of 100 websites and 200GB of SSD storage space for half the price. As for Hostinger's renewals, they are actually a bit steeper, basically doubling your monthly fee. However, since Hostinger is way cheaper from the get-go, it's going to be more affordable in the long run. Oh, and another thing, I don't like that IONOS lacks longer billing periods. They usually help me save money and are more convenient than paying every month or each year.

Hostinger constantly updates its hPanel, making it work smoother or changing the user interface to be more useful. I sometimes even have to refilm parts of my review because Hostinger updated something. In the IONOS case, there seemed to be very little update from the control panel I tested a year ago. Even back then the only way I could describe IONOS controls was confusing. They seem to be doing their own thing which doesn't follow the best rules of UI design. Everything takes more clicks than is needed, and tools are in opposite places you would expect them to be.

Hostinger's controls are straightforward and simple. If I want to create a new website, I go to websites, click new, and go through this quick setup. That's it, a brand new WordPress or Website Builder site is ready to use. There are no ads or useless space, you get only the most necessary tools and others are grouped in easy-to-understand categories. Even my friends with very little experience can create and manage small projects here on their own.
