📊 Our economy could be in trouble if we keep using 'Girl Math' 😉 to calculate labor reports. Last week, initial jobless claims were the highest they’ve been in 12 months. But just a few weeks ago, we heard the economy was strong and unemployment dropped from 4.2% to 4.1%. How does that make sense?
Here’s the issue—Non-Farm Payroll counts part-time jobs and people with multiple jobs, which throws off the numbers. Last year, part-time jobs went from 4.1 million to 4.6 million, and second jobs went from 5.3 million to 8.6 million since 2020.
If the Fed doesn’t get real data, they won’t cut rates, which means businesses can’t borrow money to expand, and real jobs (not part-time or second jobs) won’t return to the economy.
Do you think part-time jobs and second jobs should count in unemployment numbers? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
