The van-style Class B motorhome has long been a popular favorite for traveling couples, whether they are taking a weekend away at the coast or making a longer road trip. In the last few years, however, these convenient camper vans have become even better, with amenities previously only offered in larger motorhomes. At Guaranty RV, we carry new and pre-owned Class B motorhomes from some of the top manufacturers, including RoadTrek, Pleasure-Way, Winnebago and more.
There are a number of advantages to driving a Class B motorhome instead of driving or towing a larger RV. Class B’s are unmatched in terms of driveability; the size of these vehicles makes them much more maneuverable than any other RV, particularly when you’re dealing with cities or other situations where there is traffic congestion. A Class B motorhome like a Winnebago Travato is as easy to drive and to park as a van. It also gives you many more options for everyday use, even when you’re not on vacation, because it can easily be used as a second car and can be parked in your driveway just like any other vehicle. With a Class B, you don’t need the kind of parking space that a travel trailer, fifth wheel or larger motorhome requires in the off-season.
In a model like a Roadtrek Agile, you get all the advantages of a large motorhome, but on a smaller scale. This includes an efficient kitchen, a bathroom, all the necessary hot water and holding tanks, a comfortable bed, air conditioning and heat, big windows for natural light, and amenities like flat screen TVs, stereo systems, patio awnings and more—but unlike a Class A, you can use a Class B motorhome in your everyday life year round. For instance, Roadtrek’s RS motorhomes will seat seven people, so you can take all your friends to the football game and open up your motorhome for the best tailgate party ever.
The size of these smaller motorhomes also means that they are much more easily serviced than other motorhomes. Unlike larger Class A models or diesel pushers that require a special service center, you can drive into any repair facility that can accommodate a van, which means if you need repairs, you have more options and you can be back on the road quickly. And, depending on what model you buy, a Class B motorhome can tow a small trailer, so you can bring your ATVs along, your fishing boat, or you can opt to bring more camping supplies if you need them.
Of course, there’s also that all-important issue of cost. Class B motorhomes cost less than their bigger brothers and they save you a lot of money at the pump. In the last few years, as gas prices have inched ever upward, Class B motorhome manufacturers have gone to great lengths to make these smaller RVs as aerodynamic and fuel efficient as possible. Now they get 15 to 20 MPG, and sometimes even more. When you compare those numbers to a larger motorhome, which tends to get less that 10 MPG, you can see how quickly your savings add up, particularly if you’re using your motorhome on a regular basis or for longer trips. In a Class B motorhome, you won’t have to let pricey gas keep you from making memories.
If you’re looking for a smaller, fuel-efficient motorhome to accommodate two people on either weekend trips or longer adventures, a Class B motorhome might be exactly what you need. Now they are more luxurious and aerodynamic than ever.
