DUMB TYPE "AUDIO VISUAL LIVE 2022: remix"

Composed of artists from diverse backgrounds – such as visual art, music, video, dance, design, and computer programming – and with no fixed director, the artist collective Dumb Type has used innovative technologies to explore poignant questions about the role of technology, as well as various issues in contemporary society, since forming in 1984. Active both in Japan and internationally, the group changes members and modes of expression according to each new project, resulting in interdisciplinary performances and installations that refuse to be confined to existing genres.
The new installation that Dumb Type unveiled at the Japan Pavilion of the 59th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia (2022) has been adapted into a live theatrical remix format for this performance. Through Dumb Type’s unique and sophisticated audio-visual expressions, this work raises questions about truth and humanity’s future in an age in which the prominence of social media has caused information to become distorted, and encourages people to think about methods of communication and perceiving the world.

ダムタイプ『AUDIO VISUAL LIVE 2022: remix』

１９８４年の活動開始以来、特定のディレクターを置かず、ヴィジュアル・アート、映像、コンピューター・プログラミング、音楽、ダンスなど、多彩な分野のメンバーで構成されたアーティスト集団で、高度な技術を駆使しテクノロジーの役割や現代社会における様々な問題に鋭い問いを投げかけてきた「ダムタイプ」。プロジェクトに合わせてメンバーや表現方法を変化させながら、既存のジャンルにとらわれない、領域横断的なパフォーマンスやインスタレーションを中心に発表し国内外で活動している。
「第５９回ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際美術展日本館展示」（2022）のダムタイプによる新作インスタレーションを、劇場空間でのライブ・リミックスという形式に抽出した本作は、ソーシャルネットワークの台頭により情報が撹乱する現代社会において、洗練されたダムタイプ独自のヴィジュアル・サウンド表現を通じ、人々のコミュニケーション方法や世界を知覚する方法の思考を促しながら、私たちの未来、真実をめぐる問いを投げかける―。
