Oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ is a six-syllable Sanskrit mantra associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara.
First appears in the Mahayana Kāraṇḍavyūhasūtra, where sadaksara (six voices) and paramahrdaya or Avalokiteshvara are also called "inside." Mantra is considered a condensed form of all teachings in this text.
Religious scholars have discussed the true meaning and meaning of these words.
The English meaning of is expressed as "praise of the jewel in the lotus", or it can mean "I am in the lotus" as a declarative thought.
Padma means Indian lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) in Sanskrit, and mani means "jewel", the spiritual "jewel" commonly spoken in Buddhism.
The first word aum/om is the sacred word of many religions in India and hum means understanding.
