In this video I am learning the art of hunting a spaniel when the wind is coming from behind you, known as a “back-wind” or “down-wind” beat. The aim is to let the dog take a long cast whilst you stand still and then the dog should turn into the wind and work back towards you therefore optimising the chance of finding game. It is not an easy skill to master for both handler and dog and one that we will go on and practice more over the next few months….
