Black/Matrix - Sega Saturn - Tactical RPG first battle and pre fight story gameplay [4k60]

Gameplay from the start of chapter two, which is the first chapter to have battles in it, English speakers might want to jump to 15:00 where the battle begins. The story in Black/Matrix is rather dark as you can see from the section we show. With one character being badly beaten, the game also has a number of dark and adult themes, not normally seen in games.

Black/Matrix was a tactical RPG series by NEC that never quite found its market. The game is a mixture of dating romance crossed with tactical battles. The game is very text heavy and we cut out the first chapter which is largely mini-games, character stats development and you chatting to the character you picked at the start of the game. Oddly enough straight after the battle shown here you get the second fighter straight after.

While we haven't played that far into it Black/Matrix, it a rather interesting take on the genre, downed characters have to be finished in order to defeat them doing so gains blood points, which are kind of like MP for the game. Forgive some of the menu navigation in the video we were was still figuring out what did what. NEC released this in 1999 on Sega Dreamcast with additional extras called Black/Matrix Advanced and also port it to the PS1 in 2000 as Black/Matrix Cross (+). Both these versions come on two CDs compared to the single disc Saturn version.
