One Life to Live 4/2/1991

Cord tries to get Tina to help him sneak out of the hospital. Cord says he’s worried the Banner is in trouble and he wants to help. Tina asks if what Dorian said yesterday got to him, but Cord says he spoke to Clint and there seems to be some truth to it. Tina is worried about Cord leaving too soon, but she says she’ll help anyways. Instead of bringing the car around back, though, Tina goes to get Larry and Brenda to convince Cord to go back to bed. Bo brings Alex flowers to apologize, but she doesn’t seem thrilled to see him when she answers her door. The pair seem to patch things up and agree to take things slowly, however after Bo leaves, Alex seems annoyed that Bo takes her understanding for granted. Kevin is about to confront him mom about the conversation he overheard, but Clint interrupts to tell Kevin to move his car. Viki stops Clint from rushing out the door and says she has something to tell him. Clint says he has to go, but Viki insists on having breakfast together. When she realizes the coffee is cold, she goes to reheat it. While she’s out of the room Clint places a call to a woman (Olivia Birkelund) and tells her he’s running late but he’s about to come meet her now. Bo comes to Llanfair to find Clint, but Viki doesn’t know where he is–she says she called the office and he wasn’t there. She’s worried because Clint admitted Dorian’s story was not a fabrication–the paper is having financial trouble. She shows Bo the statement she plans to give, and Bo says there’s no way she can do this. Max visits Cord in the hospital. Cord asks how he and Al are holding up, and Max admits he isn’t sure what the right way is to tell a kid his mom is going to spend 15 years in prison. Alex has lunch with her father. She makes small talk and Nat wants to know if she had a specific reason for wanting to see him. She says she just wanted to spend time with him. She is hurt by his abruptness and asks whether he was relieved when he had to enter witness protection, leaving his wife and daughter behind. He admits he was a little relieved, because when he had to choose between work and home life, he always chose the work.

At The Banner, Viki asks Rika whether she’s heard from Clint, but she says she hasn’t. Renee and Kevin arrive to support Viki. Viki is surprised to see Kevin, but he says all he wanted to tell her this morning before they got interrupted was that he is on her side. Viki and Bo try to hold off the press to wait for Clint to show up, but Dorian and a hoard of reporters push past Rika and Kerry right into Viki’s office. She tells them she has a brief statement to make: she is stepping down as mayor, effective immediately. Dorian asks if the fact that Herb is here means she’s endorsing him as her replacement. Viki says Herb is just here as a friend, but she doubts Llanview could do any better than Herb. Troy tells Max he’s been to see Gabrielle in Statesville, but she still refuses to name Carlo as the mastermind. She gave Troy an envelope for Max, and when Max opens it, he finds Gabrielle’s wedding and engagement rings inside. Back at Llanfair, everyone is worried about where Clint is. Renee says Asa disappears all the time and always comes back; Bo suggests Clint probably had an appointment. Brenda tells Larry she can’t go to the medical conference in Hawaii, because she doesn’t want to leave Steven with a sitter for a whole week. Rika tells Kerry her leave from Harvard has been extended for another two weeks. Kerry is happy for the good news, but wonders if that means she’s still leaving. He tells her he loves her, and Rika says she loves him too. In her apartment, Alex stares sourly at the bouquet Bo bought her. Her reverie is interrupted when Bo rings the bell. He says he called her office and her secretary said she called out sick. She vents about the conversation she had with her father. Bo says fathers can be difficult, and Alex appreciates the effort, but she says she’d give anything to have the relationship with Nat that Bo has with Asa. Herb and Dorian have drinks, and Dorian celebrates what she sees as a personal victory. Clint says goodbye to the woman he spoke to this morning. Before he leaves, he says he wants her to know how much seeing her means to him.
