Hey everyone, I decided to make a magnetic linear accelerator. A.K.A. Gauss Gun.
Read description if you want to know more about it!!!!
I used neodymium magnets, all 1 inch cubed. For those of you who don't know, Neodymium magnets, are extremely powerful. With these, if 2 of them got stuck together, they would not come apart. I then used 3.8 cm small spherical, metal balls. This size worked out best for me.
Magnetic linear accelerators, are practically the same concept of linear accelerators, accept instead of using atoms, I use small metal bearings. I first have a ball go down a slight decline, and then it is magnetically pulled towards the magnet once within 3-4 inches. This rapidly speeds it up, until it hits the magnet. The momentum is then carried through the magnet, one ball bearing, and into the second ball, which is then far enough away, to be launched forward towards the next magnet. This process is continued, until it flies out the end, and hit a 1 inch deep tile. After 3 shots, the tile shattered :P
These are easy to build, and fun to use.
